Guaranteed Payments for 25years

To encourage uptake of renewable technology the government has introduced certain incentive schemes. The Feed-in tariff (also known as the clean energy cashback scheme) scheme began in April 2010 and ensures households who produce their own energy receive regular payments.

The scheme works by energy providers paying you a set rate per unit,  currently set at 43.3p per kw for all the energy you produce regardless of whether you use it or not. That’s more than three times what you’d pay for your electricity from your supplier. Payments are guaranteed for 25 years, tax-free and index-linked.

There’s also a 3.1p per kw payment for every unit you don’t use, this will flow back (export) to the grid.  These tariffs are on top of the reduction in your electricity bills you achieve through producing your own energy.
